We had a good start in Turkey this week. For a long time we always started with depressing stories.

Galatasaray captured one of the most prolific strikers in the world to its team. Milan Baros was transferred to Galatasaray from Olympic Lyon of France after 3 years with the French club. But I think he was a bit late to save Galatasaray. The club lost its chance to play in the Champions’ League group stages by losing to Steau Bucharest. But it was a good week for its rival Fenerbahce. They are now in the Champions’ league group stages and have already won 10m Euros as a reward fee for making it to this next stage of the league.

I really don’t know what to say about it… One of Turkey’s sexiest actresses, Didem Erol is shooting a movie with an almost unknown Turkish actor Melih Ekener. In the scenario she had to kiss him cheek to cheek .But she kisses his lips. It seemed a great honour, but alas not! Mr. Ekener was very angry about this and took her to court. He is not married, no girl friends and moreover he is really not a catch for Didem. He is taking her to court. You are useless man!
One of Turkey’s underwater commandos body had been missing for 15 years. His body was discovered last week. What a story this is! In 1993 he went on a field exercise in the Black Sea area of Turkey. Their aim was to leave the submarine and to search around the sea and then leave. Everybody came back except him. When he was lost he had only been married for 9 months. After he was missing for 3 months, his wife moved back to her parent’s house and after 2 years his father died from a heart attack. In December 2007, his mother had a phone call from the Turkish navy. They said her that a commando’s skeleton in uniform had been found underwater. The DNA test results took 8 months to confirm. It turned out this was indeed Yilmaz Ekmekci, their son who had been missing since 1993. He was buried one more time in the presence of his ex-wife who has now re-married and his parents.

There is a columnist in Hurriyet daily newspaper called as Yilmaz Ozdil, one of the most outspoken writers in Turkey. Last week, there was a huge scandal in Turkey. One of Ankara city’s Kecioren municipal police (Zabita) bit a market owner for selling alcohol in his market. It raised the tension against the government, because the city was ruled by the ruling party of Turkey. The American Embassy in Ankara opened an investigation into the case. People opposed what America did. What he said was, the national drink of Turkey, Raki is produced by Americans, cigarettes are mostly produced by Americans, whiskey is produced in Ireland, Scotland and the UK, beers are mostly produced by Europeans, America has a share in Efes Pilsen, and Coca Cola is American, the only thing Turkish there is the market owner. Is it wrong what America does now?

Turkey suffered a great failure in the Olympics. Turkey only won 1 Gold, 4 Silvers and 3 Bronze medals in all of the games. Turkey has a population of 70 million people, but won only 8, while the UK with an almost identical population won 47 medals. This is a basic figure of what modernism and money means.
Tensions are rising in the Black Sea area around Russia. I hope everything can be resolved peacefully there.
