The Didim Friends of Animals charity is offering the sum of £300 as a reward to anyone who can provide absolute proof of who is collecting and killing or dumping street animals.
The Didim Friends of Animals charity is offering the sum of £300 as a reward to anyone who can provide absolute proof of who is collecting and killing or dumping street animals. This means photographs or video supported by 2 or 3 witnesses. We are not interested in the dog catcher catching street dogs to be taken for neutering, but in some other kind of vehicle, manned by possibly council workers or Zabita, or any other bodies, catching dogs that are already neutered and tagged, or/and cats and taking them away in the vehicle. We need photos of the dogs they are taking, the vehicle, the number plate, ideally anyone’s faces, and even more wonderful would be the place they are taking them to, if anyone is able to follow in another vehicle and see what they do with them. We would like to know for sure are they being dumped or killed. We already know some are being dumped as small groups of tagged dogs have been seen in far flung places like Seyrantepe, where there are no houses or people and consequently, no food or water. The dogs being tagged must come from Didim, as surrounding municipalities are all breaking the law by not operating neuter and release.
This sum of money will also be given if someone gives definite and reliable information which leads to absolute proof.
Anyone providing ANY information will have their anonymity protected if required.
This was done in a part of Istanbul and resulted in a team being caught.
A council team were caught in action somewhere in Turkey this week, it was reported in Sabah national newspaper, AND … THEY ADMITTED THEY WERE A TEAM OF COUNCIL EMPLOYED DOG KILLERS!!!!!!!!
In the meantime, on October 4th, there are to be rallies held all around the world to protest about the treatment of animals in Turkey. They will be peaceful gatherings at Turkish Embassies and Municipality offices. I need to know how many people are willing to join if I organize one for Didim. Please email me on gillyghoulerer@hotmail.com with your name and contact phone number if you can join us. We will simply gather outside the Council offices where the Mayor has offices and walk to the Governor’s office near the Police Station. No banners or plaques will be allowed as this is illegal and fineable. It will be a protest purely by numbers against what is happening in Didim.

The secretary of the Dutch Animal Trust, who recently gave a donation of 1000 Euros to our charity, says:
“Our charity is going to demonstrate on the 4th of October with other animal friends at the Turkish embassy. You can tell the Governor that we are going to publish all the horrible news that is happening with the animals in Didim and that tourist will stay away from Didim!! We are going to inform the Dutch embassy and the embassy in London so everyone knows what’s happening with the dogs!
Can you please give us the address for the governor, so we can send him a "nice" letter?
Together we can help the animals!!”
Anyone interested in Didim’s animals, and the situation here or, in supporting the Tourism boycott that is being instigated to try and convince the authorities they must stop killing innocent animals can see the information below…..
The petition is here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/save-the-street-dogs-of-altinkum-didim-turkey

There is also www.didimkillers.wordpress.com which is not very complimentary re: our authorities!!! (Please note: this site was not set up by the Didim Friends of Animals charity).
See also, www.turkeymassacre.wordpress.com for info and petition to sign to boycott tourism to Turkey in general until something is done about the animal situation.
These may seem like drastic measures to take, but as it is now 4 years since the new animal laws were passed and the councils all around Turkey are still killing, and dumping, and many are not instigating legally required neuter and release programmes, it seems we MUST MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD LOUDER!!!!!
Facebook has over 4 groups for the Didim dogs
Myspace has one,
So huge support from all over the world.
I recently had this quoted to me in an email……
I've had enough of the "Rogers" (see AA ) of this world who think the only way forward is to kill every b#*%*y thing .
There is always a kinder way, and in this case it is to neuter and release, and leave the dogs to live in peace.
Finally, anyone who has seen the small pony tethered by the new market place and feels that this animal is not being cared for can email or write or phone their complaint to the Didim Belediye. The Didim Friends of Animals charity will then be able to work with the Zabita to go and remove the pony and rehome him. He is very small, extremely undernourished, and is tethered from early morning ‘til late evening, every day, without shade, food or water. His skin is in bad condition, and he has several welts marks on his neck. The owners were traced on Monday of this week, and offered a sum of money to SELL him to the charity, but this was refused as the owner said he paid almost 3 times more. This is obviously untrue, as the cost of small 2 yr old untrained ponies is known to certain charity committee members. The owner has been told that the pony’s condition must improve, and it will be monitored. If no improvement, it can be taken from him, but THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME RECORD OF COMPLAINTS AT THE COUNCIL to enable this to happen. Since speaking with the owner, the horse is now ‘hidden’ in the valley opposite the hospital near the roundabout on the road that leads to Yesilkent. Please spare a few minutes if passing to go and say hello, he loves attention…….and carrots, apples, pears, peaches/plums (stones removed) and especially watermelon which makes him drool wonderfully!!!
