BARBUL THE PONY IS SAVED!!!

The story in last weeks The Didymian about the small pony constantly tied up without food, shade or water, has been wonderfully solved. The Didim Friends of Animals Charity had traced and approached the owner with a view to buying it from him, purely so they could re-home it, and give it a better life than the one it was obviously having. At the time, no one had any idea what we would actually do with him, if we got him! We just knew he had to be saved. The owner wanted an exorbitant amount of money, over 4 times more that the monetary value of such a pony. The Dutch Trust STICHTING WERELD ASIELEN that had previously sent a large donation said we must buy it regardless of the cost and that they would support us. I had already got permission from the owner of the olive grove behind my home to keep the pony there until a suitable place could be found for him. At least he would have shade from the trees, a good bath, and regular food, love, water, and walks!

However, I remembered that there is a lovely Turkish lady who lives near Mavisehir, and who is a bit of an animal collector. She loves all animals, and has dogs, cats, geese, rabbits, ducks, 2 horses and 4 ponies. The ponies go off to Izmir in the winter, as there is a suitable place for them there, with shelter from the rain etc. But her land is large, with stabling for about 6 animals, and people regularly on hand to keep an eye on them, and feed and water them all. I thought wouldnt it be wonderful for Barbul, as I had called him, if he could go there? He is only 3 yrs old, and has probably never had another pony friend in all his short life. He certainly gets almost no human attention as is tied up from morning til night somewhere, usually off the road where he cannot be seen.

The lady was contacted and said yes straight away, after the situation was explained to her. She even went and spoke to the owner as if she was buying Barbul herself, and got a better price than the charity!!

Barbul has a child to carry on Friday evening to his circumcision party, and that will be his last work for his present owner. He is due to go to his new home on Saturday, and I will be spending the day with him on Sunday at this lovely ladys house. Thank you Hulya. You are wonderful!! Thanks also to Sencan Mimarlik Architectural Engineers, for permission to use their olive grove.

DOGGIES IN NEED

We have 3 doggies in need this week, 2 lovely terriers and a light grey German Shepherd. The smaller terrier is male, and is just growing his adult teeth, so is only about 5 months old. He is an absolute darling, lovely peachy colour. The other terrier is the same colour, with longer legs, and is female, but has been neutered. She is also a real sweetie, but little bit larger. The German Shepherd is a female too, though not yet neutered, but will be before being re-homed. She is probably between 8 months and 1 year old. All super dogs, affectionate, lively and friendly.

Lottie the Dalmatian is still at the shelter, and still being sponsored by Absolutely Altinkum members. Her rear legs/frozen hips problem seems to have sorted itself out, and her only problem is a wonky front leg, where it was broken but has set and healed incorrectly. She is also extremely lively and loving, and would love a good home. She has a bit of mange at the moment, so will not be released for 4 weeks minimum. Lottie has been neutered, and is possibly 18 months-2 years old

The fund for the reward for proof of who is killing or removing the neutered street dogs is now at £350 from the British animal lovers, and supported by another 100 Euros from Holland.

THE WORLD RALLIES AGAINST DAILY ABUSES AGAINST STREET ANIMALS IN TURKEY.

It is finally being recognized that Turkey has an appalling record of DAILY ABUSE against its street animals. 2 members of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) Germany, visited Turkey and called the situation appalling and disgraceful and a real emergency.

On October 4th 2008 many Countries from around the World are joining together in a co-ordinated Rally against the daily abuse suffered by the street Dogs in Turkey.
The London Rally will start at 14:00 outside The Turkish Airline Offices , 25 Pall Mall London SW1Y 5EA  Then proceed to The Turkish Embassy London.
Participating countries SO FAR are :
Istanbul ,Turkey ./  Ontario, Canada./  Vancouver Canada./  Paris, France./  Marburg, Germany ./ LA, USA./  Switzerland./  The Hague, Holland. (Israel, Los Angeles and New York/America, Australia, Hungary, Serbia, Switzerland and Mexico unconfirmed at present).

Please support the rallies . Please have a look at this website: www.serbiananimalsvoice.wordpress.com which is also working to help Turkeys street animals.

Very disappointing that absolutely NO ONE has contacted me to say they are prepared to join our peaceful rally on October 4th. Does this mean NONE of the Didim animal lovers will do something that might go towards helping to stop the atrocities being carried out by municipalities, governments and people generally daily in Turkey?? I can only assume everyone actually condones these barbaric actions; if not, why not stand up and be counted…let your voice be heard, just by BEING there, it can make a difference! Email me at gillyghoulerer@hotmail.com if you want to join us. We will not proceed with this rally unless we get official allowance from the Governor, so no one is at risk of being arrested if they join us! This only happens when allowance is not asked for beforehand and therefore the rally is illegal. Also, we will not proceed with this rally unless there are a minimum of 30 people willing to join.

This is the poster that will be used at the rallies…..

Stray Dogs

I echo everyones praise for this lady, I notice there is a poll on the home page for or against the dogs, so very glad to see that the majority of people do not think the dogs are a nuciance.
I feel there is a lynch mob attitude towards the dogs with some people in Didim, Thank goodness they are a minority.
Keep going Gill, you are doing marvelous work , I'm sure you efforts will reap great rewards.
If I were there on Oct 4th i would be with you, I will attend the London Rally . Well done .

World rally for Turkish street dogs
By: Alaca
I can only imagine that most of the residents of Didim are extremely selfish. I am glad I dont live there. Ok I totally agreee to put the aggressive dogs to sleep - but they don't all deserve to be killed/starve to death somewhere in the forest just because you dont like the look of them. Shame on you.

Rally
By: Neesan
I am very disappointed that no-one in Didim seems to have taken up Gills invitation to stand up for the dogs of Didim, When so many people from all four corners of the world are organising rallies right now.
Oct 4th is World Animal Day, There is not a better day to speak on behalf of these poor abused animals, You have a voice - Please use it, give Gill the support she needs , and save the lives of many more animals in Turkey.
